 Product Description

Product documentation for this product is starting to appear at http://products.packetflux.com/base3/

Our SiteMonitor products permit the monitoring and control of equipment at any site which has IP connectivity. Designed to provide low-cost monitoring and control, the SiteMonitor products are the perfect addition to any remote site, or to any supported equipment you want to be able to monitor and control.  This is the newest version of our SiteMonitor Base Unit, the Base Unit 3.   It contains a brand new web interface designed from the ground up to be mobile-friendly and easy to use, and several other new or refreshed features better described below.

Customers who already have a SiteMonitor system with an earlier Base Unit will find that the SiteMonitor Base 3 - Classic Edition is electrically compatible with existing systems.  This means that no re-wiring will be necessary to upgrade sites to the Base 3.  In addition, existing expansion modules will be able to be used directly with the Base 3.  Initially a limited type of modules will be supported.  Documentation on which modules are currently supported is available at the documenation link above.  Additional firmware will be released over a few months to support most, if not all, of the existing modules in the field.

The Base 3 acts as the foundation of the SiteMonitor system, with a 10/100  Ethernet interface to connect to a TCP/IP-based network.   In addition to the web interface, it also accepts SNMPv1 or SNMPv2 queries to permit monitoring of attached devices.

The Base 3 includes a few built-in inputs and outputs. The built-in functionality was designed with a small solar site in mind. For many sites, you may only need the Base 3.  However, if you need more capabilities, there are numerous expansion modules available which are connected via the expansion port.  Modules available include remotely-controlled PoE Injection, Cambium Compatible Synchronization, additional analog and digital I/O.  In addition, modules are available to permit monitoring of other devices such as Solar Charge Controllers and UPS'es.   If you don't find a module which fits your needs, please contact us as we're always looking to add support for other devices.

The Base Unit 3 Classic Edition has the following inputs:

  • Dual Polarity Agnostic 12-56VDC power inputs, each metered separately - plug one into a battery-backed source, and one into a line-powered adapter, or hook it up to any other power source(s) you'd like. The unit will run off of either one, and you will get an indication of the voltage (if any) from each.   "Polarity Agnostic" means you can now run this unit off of positive ground/negative voltage systems like the common -48VDC at a communication site.   Each of these inputs can also be jumpered such that it is only a voltmeter for monitoring voltages which shouldn't be used to power the device.
  • 10/100 Ethernet Input.  This input also supports PoE via passive PoE injectors.
  • DC +-100mV low or high side shunt input. In DC applications, add a shunt to your system, and receive an indication of the net current through that point in the system.   (Does not support placement in the -48VDC line on a -48VDC system, but a shunt can be added to the return/neutral side in this type of system.).
  • Resistance input. This flexible input replaces the 'switch input' on the previous version.   The updated version can not only connect to a switch closure such as a security loop, or a switch or relay closure output, but also to resistive sensors including temperature and tank level sensors. Perfect for detecting whether the door to your equipment has been opened or whether the security loop through your solar panels is intact.
  • Relay Output. Control up to 2A at up to 30VDC or up to 60W DC at voltages above 30VDC. Perfect for switching a remote load (such as a radio) on and off.
  • Internal Temperature Sensor. There is an on-board temperature sensor built right in. Read an approximate temperature of the enclosure the SiteMonitor Base Unit II is in so you can be alerted to heating and cooling system failures.

Some key additional features include:

  • DIN Rail Mountable
  • Low Power consumption - Less than 1 Watt typical.
  • Industrial Temperature Range - Operates down to -40C/F and up to well in excess of 60C/140F.
  • SNMPv2 support
  • Web-First, Mobile Friendly web interface for configuration and management
  • Internal Watchdog timers to ensure continued availability.
